Melvin is a lifelong resident of the City of Springfield, as well as a two term Springfield City Councilor from Ward 3. Melvin understands the needs and concerns of our community.

Springfield is the third largest city in Massachusetts, yet today there is no Springfield resident in the State Senate. Springfield is represented by two Senators from neighboring communities. Melvin wants to end Springfield's lack of representation in the Senate.

On the Springfield City Council, Melvin has used his position to stand up for the residents of Springfield. He was one of the earliest and strongest opponents to the proposed Biomass Incinerator, and he voted for the sucessful revocation of the incinerators permit, putting to rest the threat of increased air pollution and health risks to our children and senior citizens. Melvin also stood up to big banks, supporting the historic and ground breaking Anti Home Foreclosure Ordinance which has been hailed as the strongest legislation against home foreclosures in the country.

Now, Melvin wants to represent our concerns in Boston.

As a State Senator, Melvin will work for the issues most important to Springfield residents:

Property Values
Public Safety
Fiscal Responsibility

And he is ready to start on Day 1. All it will take is your support, and your vote, on September 6.
